On July 31, 2014 the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a rule finalizing October 1, 2015 as the new compliance date for health care providers, health plans, and health care clearinghouses to transition to ICD-10-CM/PCS.

What does this mean to CHIP-AZ users?

If you use the CHIP IEP tools you will need to make a change from ICD-9 to ICD-10 codes. The average school only has 5 IEP students. This change will only take a few minutes.

When?

If you use CHIP to Export for SEBS, DO NOT change before you export your September 2015 billing. You will need to change codes AFTER you export your September 2015 billing.  ICD-10 codes should be in place when you do OCTOBER Billing Export for SEBS.

Where do I get the ICD-10 codes?

Note that the code many districts use as a default, 315.9, converts approximately to ICD-10  F81.9

Where in CHIP-AZ do I make the changes?

Go to Entry Screens tab, IEP Setup and change the Dx Code(s).

After DX Codes are changed, you may proceed with October 2015 CHIP Export for SEBS.

Per Southwest Educational Billing, October 2015 billings should be transmitted using ICD-10 codes. October 2015 billings with ICD-9 codes will be rejected.
